Our programme is designed for advanced conducting students and young professional conductors. Participants will have an opportunity to work with a prominent Czech opera ensemble at the JK Tyl Theatre in Pilsen under the guidance of chief conductor Norbert Baxa.
The masterclass follows the structure of professional theatre rehearsals. Our process begins with private lessons accompanied by piano, subsequently joined by soloists. It then progresses to rehearsals with the full orchestra, chorus and ensemble. The highlight of the masterclass is a fully staged public performance conducted by the participants.
Maestro Norbert Baxa is Chief-Conductor at the JK Tyl Theatre in Plzen. He is also permanent docent of opera conducting at the Music Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague, external Lecturer for the Zurich University of the Arts, and President of the European Music Academy in Teplice.
Aside from his work in the Czech Republic, Norbert Baxa has guest conducted in Germany, Finland, Spain, Holland, Switzerland and Japan.
He has appeared as guest conductor with numerous ensembles, including the National Theatre in Prague, Teatro Massimo Bellini, Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
